What is Irish Dance?
Ever heard of Riverdance? That is the most popular Irish dance performing company known worldwide today! Since 1994, when Riverdance hit the big stage, spectators from all over the world have fallen in love with the percussive hardshoe footwork, graceful and balletic softshoe, and authentic Irish music.
Today, Irish dance is recognized as both a competitive and performance sport. Irish dancers have the pleasure of learning both forms of Irish dance: hardshoe and softshoe. Dancers, however, have the ability to choose whether or not they would like to be involved in the competitive world of Irish dance. Many dancers choose to attend class for the social and performance aspect of Irish dance.
